Asaba Tmber Market Fire Outbreak: Gov-Okowa's Aide, Hon. Chris Osamor Commiserates with Shop Owners.

ASABA- Special Assistant to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Community and Social Development, Hon Chris Eziafa Osamor has lamented on the huge losses encountered by the shop owners and Commiserated with victims of the fire Outbreak at Bonsac, Asaba Timber Market where properties worth millions of naira were destroyed by the incidence of fire.


Hon Chris Osamor spoke to Newsmen today during his visit to the scene of the fire incidence to ascertain the level of damage today being Sunday, 29th December, 2019 after the ugly trend that happened yesterday being on Saturday in Asaba, Delta State Capital.

The fire Incidence was allegedly stated to have caused by a nearby Cold Room in the Market Premises as a spark light from the end ignited into a full fledged fire and engulfed the the  timber market, which one of the dealers noted has once caused disagreement between the owner and the Leadership of the market.

Some of the passers-by who were eye witnesses to the fire incidence who preferred anonymity stated that the fire started  at about 8pm after the close of businesses  by Timber and spare parts  dealers in Asaba, Bonsac area, Popular Chiedu Nwoko plaza attested that the intervention of the men of  Delta State Fire Service rescued the situation  that prevented further escalation.

"Some of the staff of a neighbouring gas plant in the area tried their possible best with their fire extinguisher but to no avail, a situation that would have made it impossible to prevent the  further spread of the fire incidence as  the gas plant, other Industrial and residential buildings would have added more salt to the already existing injury", one of the source said.

The Governor's aide stated that unforseen Circumstances is bound to happen at any moment, but it was a sad situation to hear of the huge destruction caused by the fire incidence and prayed God to console the victims, shop owners in the area who lost their goods, properties.

Hon Chris Osamor then  first and foremost thanked God for sharing the lives of the shop owners as the incidence did not take place during business hours, especially this Yuletide.

He enjoined the Leadership of Timber market to always make safety their watchword some other time and assure them of State Government assistance towards their total rehabilitation to bring back their Economic life-wire.
