May Day Celebration: Delta NYCN Boss, Comrade Kenneth Okorie To FGN, State, And Local Governments, The Welfare Of Health Workers Very Imperative

ASABA- The Delta State Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria Comrade Kenneth Okorie has called on government at all levels to provide welfare packages like housing scheme,car loan and insurance cover  that would stimulate workers to give their best.

Comrade Okorie who made the call in a press statement made available to Newsmen today being on Friday,  May 1st, 2020 to mark the May Day Celebration said in a  message tasked the Federal, State and Local Governments on the welfare of health workers.

He  said that  despite the poor remuneration of Nigerian workers, that health workers  have remained the engine room of government and congratulated them them for  giving their best to the nation despite daunting challenges.

 He reminded Federal and State governments of the urgent need to address the issue of pensions scheme  immediately, and stated  that a situation where some workers retire for many years without enjoying the benefit  of thirty five yers of service was a pity.

He frowned at the way many retirees were treated in the quest for their entitlements upon retirement and enjoined  political heads and pension  administrators to reverse  the ugly  trend.

He used the opportunity to commend front line workers in the fight against the dreaded Coronavirus  including  health personnel, security agents,the media and other essential workers   for putting their lives on the line for the nation to overcome the pandemic.

He equally paid glowing tribute to Nigerian  teachers at all levels for their doggedness in the moulding of character of school children and called on both Federal and State  governments to increase budgetary allocation in the education sub sector to enable it rank with others  in  advanced societies.

To labour leaders,Comrade Okorie  reminded them of the need to continue to stand for the rights  of workers without unnecessarily putting their selfish interest above other considerations.

He said he was happy with the cordial relationship between Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the Delta State workers and advocated that the relationship should be strengthened by both parties.

He said the May Day should be used to xray the journey so far and how best to reposition the public service in terms of remuneration and improved work  environment.

He advised the bad eggs in the public  service especially the ones with fake results, doctored ages,and other unethical conduct to throw in the towel before they are caught.

Comrade Okorie urged the three tiers of  government and the private sector to do more in the area of job creation as a way to  meaningfully engage jobless youths before they become ready tools  in the hands of mischief makers.
