ASABA- As part of efforts to re-awaking  Deltans towards carefulness, conscientious living and strict adherence to the WHO's, State Governments, Health Workers' guidelines  as panacea to the global Covid-19 pandemic, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Communication and Orientation, Prince Obaro Unuafe has cautioned that Deltans should avoid the temptation of being prone to careless living in the ongoing relaxation of Lockdown by Delta State Government as   Delta State Governor recently ordered, that effect from 30th April,  2020 a relaxation of the lockdown, which initially  Deltans were kept  at home for one month.

SSA Communication And Orientation, Prince Obaro Unuafe made this disclosure today in Asaba, Delta State capital while fielding questions from some group of Journalists when asked on  his advice to Deltans in the ongoing relaxation of lockdown by the state Government.

The Governor's aide stated that this partial relaxation was expected given the spate of complaints from Deltans that they were experiencing hardship, especially those who relied on daily pay for their livelihood, that the partial relaxation which has retained the dusk to dawn curfew(8pm-6am) is a call for greater responsibility on the part of the citizenry.

Speaking  further, Prince Obaro Unuafe noted that this noble idea from the state Government will no doubt,  stem the spread of the virus, that  the Delta State Government has directed that the use of facemask be compulsorily worn by Deltans in public, also that Deltans must follow this directive to the letter.

He stated that other precautionary measures like social distancing, use of alcohol based sanitizers and frequent washing of hands must be obeyed, that failure to obey these simple directives could force the Delta State Government to revisit the lockdown option to protect lives.

In his words: "It should be recalled that it was resistance to simple instructions that caused several fatalities in Italy and some other countries of the world".

"Today, developed Nations like America, Britain, France and China have deployed stringent rules to keep their citizens safe. If developed Nations with better technologies and resources could be this proactive then we should be even more careful. We have example of happenings in Kano to learn from".

"This period therefore calls for greater vigilance and orientation to further educate our rural communities on the need to observe precautionary measures. Information gathered reveal that in many rural communities and even urban areas social distancing and wearing of face masks are not being observed".

"This is very dangerous and could erode the gains we had achieved in  one month of lockdown.I call on Deltans not to be relaxed at this period but should be alive to their responsibilities and defeat the dreaded virus. Together we can do it if we adhere strictly to the rules prescribed by WHO,NCDC and the Delta State Government".
