NDDC: Groups Condemn Threat To Life, False Accusations On Distribution Of Palliatives By Commission In The Niger-Delta Region.

Members of the Ogoni Patriotic Movement (OPM), a youth body, have condemned the false allegations levelled against the Interim Management Committee of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) concerning the sharing of palliatives across the nine states of the Niger Delta region.

Reacting to some false accusations made by the president of Ogoni Youth Federation (OYF), Mr. Legborsi Yaaamaabana against the Commission, the grand patron of OPM based in USA, Comrade Freddie Idamkue, advised youths to always crosscheck their facts before speaking on issues, stressing that Yaamaabana, spoke out of ignorance and desperation.

The chief financier of OPM condemned the Ogoni Youth Federation and its leader for threatening the life of Madam Caroline Barine Nagbo and falsely laying blames on her that the NDDC failed to distribute the palliatives to Ogoni youths whereas youths from other states have benefited.

How do you blame somebody who is not a member of the inaugurated NDDC COVID-19 Committee on Palliatives for any shortcoming of that Committee?, he queried.
Idamkue, an American activist, explained that the NDDC had recently inaugurated the COVID-19 Committee that is saddled with the responsibility of distributing the palliatives and Nagbo who represents Rivers State should not be crucified over the Committee`s work. He warned youth groups in Ogoni to be cautious in their activities so as not to run into trouble with the security agencies that are beaming their searchlights on communities for lawless citizens.

“Make no mistake about it, Nagbo represents Rivers State on the IMC of NDDC Board and not only Ogoni while her call of duty demands fairness to all concerned and she has received eulogies for being up-to-date in this regard.

Her status as a pious Christian should not be undermined. Right from OMPADEC and to NDDC, we have had very few Ogoni professionals appointed to serve on the board such as late Dr. Ndegwe, Chief Derek Mene and Dr. Joi Nunieh and nobody threatened their lives whilst doing their jobs, so why should OYF attack Nagbo on various media sources unwarrantedly?

According to Idamkue, Yaamaabana`s actions were capable of causing disaffection between members of the public and the leadership of the commission, where members of the IMC could be wrongly perceived to be unfair to a segment of the region and their integrity reduced in the eye of the public.

Th prominent Anerican activist also advised OYF to tender a written apology to the management of the NDDC for falsely accusing its officers and threatening their lives and give an undertaking to stop unruly behaviour so as to pave the way for his intervention as requested by some members of OYF.

Please, OYF should not take the mild heart of the managing director of NDDC, Professor K.D. Pondei for granted because if he were to be a politician, he could have asked for the prosecution of membes of OYF for blackmailing the commission and embarrassing its leaders.

Also speaking on OYF`s outbursts, the president of Ogoni Youth Movement (OYM, Mr. Smith Lah-UeBari, said the scandal perpetrated by Yaamaabana on radio and newspapers were appalling, childish and provocative, adding that it was capable of raising tension in the region and destroying the image of the leadership of NDDC.

“Youths should act to preserve their future and environment”, he advised.

UeBari also advised youths to shun being used to serve selfish ends, adding that Nagbo has been working over the years and commands the largest followership in Ogoni and no envious element should use feeble-minded youths for inglorious activities and leave them when trouble comes.

He said contrary to the claims in the press statement issued by Comrade Kingsley Lenee of OYF, the law is responsible for Yaamasbana's travails and not Nagbo because law breakers are punished by law.

"Forget that she is not a noise-maker, the former APC women leader in Rivers State has the largest followership in Ogoni Kingdom, especially on account of her large heart and covenant with God", UeBari declared.
