Sunmonu@80: UNESCO Laureate Rejoices With Pioneer NLC President And His Twin Brother.

UNESCO Laureate, Prof Sir Bashiru Aremu has joined the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the nation’s workers in commemorating the pioneer President of the congress (1978-1984), Alhaji Hassan Adebayo Sunmonu, on his 80th birthday on Thursday and his twin brother Hussein Sumonu .

Professor Aremu In a press statement made available to Newsmen in Oshogbo by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Comrade Sir Bieni Victor Emenike , the UNESCO Laureate who rejoiced with the former NLC President and his twin brother, Hussein Oyekanmi Sunmonu, on the mileston described the former NLC President and twin brother as symbol of Courage and National legacy.

He described them as very courageous Nigerians, while he stated that the pioneer Labour leader and twin brother dedicated most of their working life to public service, which he said started in the early 1960s as workers of the Ministry of the then Works and Surveys.

UNESCO Laureate affirms that the former Secretary-General of the Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) left a strong legacy in the public service, and fought diligently for the welfare of the Nigerian workers, institutionalising a national minimum wage and minimum pension scheme, and consistently negotiating with public and private sectors, employers on better packages for workers.

The press Statement reads in parts: "As the identical twins turn octogenarians, l, UNESCO Laureate, Professor Sir Bashiru Aremu extols their courage and discipline in always accepting to serve the nation, believing that their knowledge and experiences will continue to inspire many into public service and pressure groups, also continue to work with governments in fostering development.

“l, Prof. Sir Bashiru Aremu prays for good health, long life and prosperity for Alhaji Sunmonu and his brother, Hussein".
